Krichevsky F. G.

Krichevsky F. G. (1879 - 1947).

Soviet painter, Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1940). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1896-1901) and at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1907-10) with F. A. Rubo. He visited England (1902), and in 1911 Germany, France, and Italy. In 1913–17 he taught at the Kiev Art School, and from 1917 at the Ukrainian Academy of Arts. In 1924-1932 and 1934-1941 he taught at the Kiev State Art Institute. Pyotr Slyota, Tatyana Yablonskaya, Alexander Filbert and other famous artists of the Ukrainian SSR studied in his workshop. The artist’s works are characterized by epicness in revealing folk character, a broad, picturesque brushwork style, monumentalization of form and emotional intensity of color. Currently, the works of F. Krichevsky are exhibited at the National Art Museum of Ukraine and other museums in Ukraine.
