Vasily Vasilyevich Krichevsky

Painter and graphic artist, film artist. From the Krichevsky artistic dynasty.In 1917-1923 he studied at the painting department of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts (from 1922 ‒ Kiev Institute of Plastic Arts), where he studied under the guidance of his father and uncle, Fyodor Krichevsky (1879-1947).In 1923-1926 he taught at the Kiev Art and Industrial School. In 1926-1930 he worked as an artist at the film studios of Odessa and Kiev (All‒Ukrainian Film Department ‒ VUFKU, since 1930 - Ukrainfilm), participated in the creation of sets, costumes, props for more than a dozen films, was the production designer of the film "Earth" by Alexander Dovzhenko (1930). In the 1930s, he collaborated with book publishers and began to devote more time to easel painting, painting portraits and landscapes of Poltava region, Kiev, Crimea. His first solo exhibition took place in 1937.In 1949, he emigrated to the United States and settled in the United States. California. In the USA, he continued to study easel painting, worked as an illustrator and decorator at film studios. He painted mainly landscapes of California and, from memory, Ukrainian rural views, the mountains of Crimea, and the Black Sea coast. He had several solo exhibitions at the Civic Center (Buena Park, 1970), University Art Center (Palo Alto, 1971), Sonevytska Galleries (New York, 1971), West End (Edmonton, Canada, 1976). He held 5 exhibitions together with his daughter Ekaterina Krichevskaya. Rosandich was elected an honorary member of the Association of Ukrainian Artists of America (OMUA), founded in May 1952. Participated in the annual group exhibitions of OMUA.
