Evgeny Ivanovich Kumankov (1920-2012) is a famous graphic artist and production designer. In 1943 he graduated from the art department of VGIK and almost immediately entered Mosfilm. Kumankov's performances and films are characterized by the special influence of the Russian realistic school in decorative art. In 1952, the film “Sadko” was released, on the artistic part of which Evgeniy Kumankov worked. In the early 70s, a fruitful collaboration with director Leonid Gaidai began. In 1971, a film adaptation of Ilf and Petrov’s novel “12 Chairs” appeared. In 1973, the film “Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession” was released, in which Evgeny Kumankov was the main production designer. From 1974 to 1999, Evgeny Kumankov worked as the chief artist of the Academic Maly Theater. He is the author of sets and costumes for many performances, including “Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich”, “Tsar Boris”, “Woe from Wit”, “Russian People”, “Yarovaya’s Love”, “Children of Vanyushin”, “The Golovlevs”. Sviditelev Evgeniy Vasilievich (1921–1971) - Russian artist. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1969). In 1943 he graduated from VGIK. He made his debut with the film “Native Fields” (1945, together with E.I. Kumankov). The most significant works in the films “Sadko” (with E.I. Kumankov), “The Cranes Are Flying”, “The Wind”, “The Northern Tale”, “Twenty-Six Baku Commissars”. Participated in the production of the films “Antique Vaudeville” (together with E. I. Kumankov, M. Samorodsky, A. L. Freidin), “Brave People”, “Ilya Muromets”, “Song of Koltsov”, “Leap Year”, “I am Cuba”, “Woman’s Kingdom”, “I am His Bride”, “And there was evening, and there was morning”. He also worked as a theater artist.
