People's Artist of the USSR (1970). Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1967). In 1926 he graduated from the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi, studied with G. Gabashvili, E.E. Lansere. In 1946 he received the title of professor, and since 1959 he has been the director of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts. Participant of exhibitions since 1922. The artist’s works are in the Museum of Arts of the Georgian SSR.
