Kharitonov Nikolay Vasilievich

Born in Yaroslavl province. For some time he lived in St. Petersburg. Around 1895 he left for Valaam, became a novice in a monastery, and painted icons for two years. He returned to St. Petersburg, attended the Drawing School of the OPKH and the private workshop of L. Dmitriev-Kavkazsky. In 1901 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts as a volunteer, and from 1902 he studied in the workshop of I. Repin. In 1909 he received the title of artist. Worked in St. Petersburg. He painted portraits and genre scenes, landscapes of the Russian North and the Caucasus; painted portraits of members of the royal family. Participated in the Spring exhibitions in the halls of the Academy of Arts and the 44th exhibition of the TPHV (1916). Received prizes from the competition. A. Kuindzhi for the paintings “Nanny” (purchased by the Academy of Arts Museum) and “Lady in Black” (purchased by the Leipzig Museum at the International Exhibition in Munich), the 1st Prize of the Association of Artists for Genre Painting and the Anniversary Prize named after. Princess Eugenie of Oldenburg. Was part of the Society named after. A. Kuindzhi, the Community of Artists and the Yaroslavl Art Island. In 1912 he traveled around Europe, worked in Paris, and studied at the Munich Academy of Arts. In 1919 he emigrated to the Kingdom of the SHS (Serbs, Croats and Slovenes). He designed performances at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb. From 1923 he lived in New York and took American citizenship. He worked as a portrait painter.
