Kharlamov Alexey Alekseevich

Painter, portraitist, genre painter. At the age of 12 he began attending classes at the Imperial Academy of Arts. During his studies he was awarded small silver medals (1857, 1862), large silver medals (1863), for the painting “The Baptism of the Kyivans” - a small gold medal (1866), for “The Return of the Prodigal Son to his Parental Home”, which was in the Museum of the Academy of Arts - a large gold medal (1868). In 1869, as a pensioner of the Imperial Academy of Arts, he went to Berlin, Paris (worked under the leadership of Leon Bonn), Belgium, and Holland. In The Hague, commissioned by the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, he made a copy of Rembrandt’s painting “Anatomy Lesson”. Since 1869, he regularly sent his paintings to exhibitions in Russia. Since 1872 he was a member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions. Some of the works were reproduced in the literary and artistic magazines “Niva” and “Rodina”. In 1873 he was awarded a bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Vienna. In 1874 he was awarded the title of academician of painting for his paintings “Poor Musician”, “Head of a Mordovian Woman”, “Head of an Italian Woman”. The most famous works: portraits of I.S. Turgeneva, E.A. Tretyakova, paintings “Italian Woman,” “Woman’s Head,” “Head of a Gypsy Boy.” Kharlamov's works are presented in museum collections in Russia (State Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum), domestic and foreign private collections.
