Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. People's Artist of the USSR. Winner of the Stalin Prize in 1948 for the painting “Letter from the Front” (1947, Tretyakov Gallery). In the early 1930s. came to Moscow, where the aspiring artist was greatly influenced by his acquaintance with I.E. Grabar, M.V. Nesterov, S.V. Malyutin, D.N. Kardovsky. He studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts (1932–1938), as well as in graduate school at the Academy, in the workshop of I.I. Brodsky (1938–1944). Laktionov specifically studied the writing techniques of the old masters. Throughout his life, the artist remained faithful to the traditions of socialist realism and almost photographic illusionism, adopted from I.I. Brodsky. Author of numerous thematic paintings and ceremonial portraits. He taught at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. The artist’s works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums.
