Legrand Louis

Legrand Louis (1863-1951)

French artist, graphic artist and illustrator. He received his artistic education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Dijon. From 1884 he worked in the workshop of the Belgian symbolist Felicien Rops in Paris. He collaborated with the leading illustrated magazines in France (for example, “Le Courrier français” since 1887, the magazine “Gil Blas”), and was a master of graphics. In his works, he tried to depict the life of various layers and classes of Parisian society. He illustrated stories and stories by Guy de Maupassant (1905) and Edgar Poe (1897). The work of Louis Legrand is close in theme and content to the works of Toulouse-Lautrec.
