Studied at the Penza Art School named after N.D. Seliverstov (1898–1900 and 1905), the Kiev Art School (1900–1904), then in the studio of D. N. Kardovsky in St. Petersburg (1906–1910). He visited France and Italy (1911), in Paris he attended the La Palette Academy, where he took lessons from the cubists J. Metzinger and A. Le-Fauconnier. He was one of the organizers and member of the “Jack of Diamonds” association (1910). Within the framework of “Jack of Diamonds” he sought to synthesize the experience of cubism, fauvism and the impressions received from Cezanne’s painting; created a special type of futuristic panel. In the late period of his creativity, he overcomes the graphic decorativeness of his early works, approaching pure picturesqueness, working mainly in the field of landscape. Also known as a set designer, he designed productions of “Prometheus” by A.N. Scriabin at the Bolshoi Theater (1918), “The Spanish Priest” by D. Fletcher at the 2nd Moscow Art Theater (1934). He taught at VKHUTEMAS and related institutes in 1919–1943. Works by A.V. Lentulov's works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in all major museums of the country.
