Russian painter, master of realistic landscape. In 1873-1885. studied at MUZHVZ with V.D. Polenova and A.K. Savrasova. At the end of the 80s. attended drawing evenings at the Polenovs’ house. He was a member of the Association of Itinerants. Since 1897, member of the art association "Munich Secession". Participant in exhibitions of the magazine "World of Art" (1898-1900). Since 1898, he taught at the Moscow School of Painting and Painting, where his students were P.I. Petrovichev, N.N. Sapunov and others. In his work, I. Levitan deeply and poetically revealed the originality and multifaceted beauty of Russian nature. He created a special version of the landscape - “mood landscape”. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums.
