Achille Lauger spent most of his life in Caillot, near Carcassonne. In 1881 he went to Paris and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts with Alexandre Cabanel and Jean-Paul Laurent. After seven years in Paris, after serving in the army, Loger returned to the south of France and achieved recognition in Carcassonne. In 1895 he returned to Cayo, where he spent the rest of his life. Loge's time in Paris spans the critical period from 1886 to 1888 (Georges Seurat's controversial On the Island of La Grande Jatte was first presented in 1986) and his connections to Neo-Impressionism should not be underestimated. In 1894 he exhibited at the Salon of the Independents, as well as in Toulouse, with de Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Sérusier, Roussel, Toulouse-Lautrec and Vuillard. Also in Paris, several personal exhibitions were held between 1907 and 1930. After leaving Paris, following the example of Seurat and his pointillism, he created his own technique of divisionism. Although Loge never adopted Seurat's scientific approach, his interest in the primacy and separation of colors resulted in a bright, lively, translucent palette. Lodge painted his paintings with small dots of paint. He later continued to create his landscapes, portraits and still lifes using light, systematic brush strokes similar to cross-hatching. After 1905, he began to work more freely with pigments, using large brushstrokes and impasto, which brought him closer to the traditional impressionist technique, while at the same time he maintained his style of translucent imagery.
