Russian historian, art critic, artist. Studied at the Oryol drawing school of Sychev; continued his artistic studies at the architectural department of the Kazan Art School (1901-1903) and, from 1903, in St. Petersburg, at the Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1905-1907 he traveled around Western Europe, studying ancient architecture. In 1907, he took drawing lessons in the Moscow workshop of K. F. Yuon. Since 1908 - in St. Petersburg; here he actively worked with S.K. Makovsky, published mainly art criticism articles in the magazines “Old Years”, “Zodchiy”, “Capital and Estate”, “Apollo”, and participated in exhibitions. In 1910, he went “to the inner provinces of the Russian Empire to collect, research, study, sketch and photograph antiquities.” The result was the works of G.K. Lukomsky, dedicated to the architecture of Russian cities. In 1914-1918 he was an honorary member of the Northern Circle of Fine Arts Lovers. After the February Revolution, he was a member of the “Special Meeting on Arts,” describing the values of the royal palaces for the organization of museums in them. In 1918 he left for Ukraine. On February 1, 1919, he became the chief curator of B.I. Khanenko’s art collection and prepared its catalog for publication. In addition, he was in charge of the description, restoration and museumification of architectural monuments in Kyiv, including St. Sophia; published a book dedicated to the Ukrainian baroque of the 17th-18th centuries; lectured on the history of furniture at the Kiev Archaeological Institute and on Russian applied art of the 17th century at the University of St. Vladimir. He was forced to leave Kyiv in October 1919. On April 20, 1920, he left Russia, emigrating to Paris through Constantinople. In the West, he continued to work actively as an artist and art critic, was the secretary of the Paris group “World of Art”, collaborated in the magazines “Flare”, “Firebird”; published books about Russian architecture. Since 1940 he lived in London. Died in Nice in 1952.
