Larisa Leonidovna Lukonina was born in Leningrad. She spent the entire blockade as a girl in a besieged city. In 1949 she entered the Taurida Art School, the painting department. She graduated with honors. In 1954, she was admitted to the graphic department of the Academy of Arts (I. E. Repin Institute), and took a course in the history of theater and costume. In 1962, she was invited to the position of production designer for Lentelefilm. She worked as an artist at the Opera and Ballet Theater. Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg Conservatory, and then moved to the position of production designer at the St. Petersburg Children's Philharmonic, where she completed her career. In parallel with her work in cinema, Larisa Lukonina designed many ballets and opera performances. Larisa Lukonina is a famous St. Petersburg theater costume designer. More than a hundred ballet and opera films created at Lentelefilm were designed by this widely gifted, unusually demanding, tactful and surprisingly modest artist.
