Lyubich Osip

Lyubich Osip (1896 - 1990).

After graduating from high school in Grodno, he entered the Odessa Art School. In 1920, with a group of Russian artists, he went to Berlin. In addition to his professional occupation, which did not always bring bread, he worked as an extra, played the violin in cinemas, that is, he did everything in order to survive and at the same time do what he loved. In 1923, Lubitsch received an order to decorate a Parisian cabaret in Montmartre and settled in Paris, in the Montparnasse quarter. While in the capital, which is known as a trendsetter, he studies the works of Rembrandt, Goya and Degas. Landscapes, portraits, genre paintings and still lifes, etchings... The artist works in oil and gouache, and is engaged in engraving. Leaves nothing for himself, exhibited at the National Bezalel Museum in Jerusalem, Milan, Turin (1953) and New York. Participates in group and solo exhibitions, including the exhibitions “Russian Artists of the Parisian Skoda” at the Museum of Saint-Denis and at the House of French Thought in Paris, in the Motte gallery. Today, Osip Lubich's paintings are kept in museums in the French provinces, as well as in museums in London, Zurich, New York and Tel Aviv. The engravings are in the collection of the National Library in Paris.
