Makovsky Konstantin Egorovich (1839, Moscow -1915, St. Petersburg).

Russian artist, representative of academic romanticism. Born into the family of E.I. Makovsky, accountant and amateur artist, one of the founders of MUZHVZ. Brother of the artist V.E. Makovsky. He studied at MUZHVZ (1851-1858), where his teacher was S.K. Zaryanko. V.A. had a great influence on the development of the artist. Tropinin. In 1858 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1862 he received a small gold medal from the Academy of Arts for the painting “Agents of Dmitry the Pretender Kill Boris Godunov.” In 1963, he took part in the “revolt of the fourteen,” left the Academy, and became one of the founding members of the “Association of Itinerants” (1870). Since 1883, he exhibited his things independently. He worked in line with the romantic concept, choosing subjects from Russian history and highly social themes from the life of the people. In 1876 he visited the Middle East, including Egypt, as well as Bulgaria and Serbia, and created a number of works dedicated to oriental exoticism. The artist’s works are in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and in many regional museums.
