Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe received wide recognition in Russian art as an outstanding master of transformation, who accurately and with a fair amount of irony examined himself and let through himself a whole pantheon of heroes of world history and culture (Marilyn Monroe, Adolf Hitler, Lyubov Orlova, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Brigitte Bardot, etc.). Revealing their hidden features and characteristics, revealing their secrets and very timely turning to one or another image, he wittily and critically exposed the pain points of the time in which we live. Vladislav was born on October 12, 1969 in Leningrad. From 1976 to 1987 he studied at five schools, including art. From 1987 to 1989 he served as an artist and head of a children's club in the Soviet Army at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. It was then that he first tried on the image of Marilyn Monroe. In 1990, together with Timur Novikov, Juris Lesnik and Georgy Guryanov, he founded Pirate Television, and also, together with Sergei Bugaev-Africa, art historians Olesya Turkina and Viktor Mazin, took part in the creation of the Cabinet magazine. In 2004, Vladislav worked as the host of Artemy Troitsky’s “Signs of Life” program on the REN-TV channel. In 2007, he received the Kandinsky Prize for the film “Volga-Volga,” in which he played the main role. The artist was awarded the prize of the IX All-Russian competition "Innovation-2013". The jury awarded him the award "For creative contribution to the development of contemporary art." The artist’s works are in the State Russian Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow House of Photography, NCCA, MuHKA (Antwerp), New Museum (St. Petersburg), Stella Art Foundation, Art4.ru Museum, New Rules Foundation, Center Georges Pompidou (Paris) and in many other famous museum and private collections.
