French painter and graphic artist. Born into the family of a railway employee. He studied in Paris at the School of Decorative Arts (1890-1895) and at the School of Fine Arts in the workshop of G. Moreau (1895-1898). He painted mainly landscapes, as well as nudes, portraits, interiors and still lifes. The landscapes of A. Marche, painted by him in the late 1890s - early 1900s, are marked by the strong influence of the Impressionists. Thus, in the painting “Trees at Billancourt” (c. 1898, Museum of Art, Bordeaux), the plot, composition, and lighting are reminiscent of the works of A. Sisley, although without the subtlety inherent in the latter. Already in the early works of A. Marche, his characteristic desire to emphasize the contour of an object with the help of a clearly defined stroke-stroke is evident ("Fair in Le Havre", 1906, Museum of Art, Bordeaux). In the second half of the 1900s. A. Marche's creative searches lead him to adopt the Fauvist artistic method. But already in 1907, he abandoned the conventional expression of this trend and developed his own system, a characteristic feature of which was the use of more restrained and subtle color combinations. He paints city landscapes, marked by both a detached and contemplative author's position and a deeply felt attitude towards nature. From a certain elevation, the artist seems to be observing the leisurely flow of the Seine, his gaze noting the arched lines of the bridges and the straight perspectives of the streets.
