Mashkov Ilya Ivanovich (1881, Don Army region - 1944, Moscow).

Great Russian painter-colorist. Founder and leader of the artistic association “Jack of Diamonds”. Studied at MUZHVZ with K.A. Korovin and V.A. Serov, but as a painter he was formed under the influence of the painting of old masters, whom he met in the Hermitage (1907) and during a trip to Europe (1908), as well as the experience of the latest Western European painting, presented in the private collections of S. Shchukin and S. Morozov. In 1911, he headed the “Jack of Diamonds” association, whose program goal was to master Cezanne’s painting principles. He headed the workshop at VKHUTEMAS-VKHUTEIN (1918-1930), and practically became the teacher of a whole generation of Soviet artists. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts, and in many regional museums.
