Meller Vadim Georgievich

Avant-garde artist, theater artist, illustrator. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1942). From 1903 to 1908 studied painting and took private lessons from the artist F. Roubaud. Since 1907, he has been collaborating and publishing his cartoons in the newspaper “Kyiv Mysl”. In 1908-1912 studies at the Munich Academy of Arts and at the same time in the drawing studio of G. Knirr. In 1912-1914. studies in the studio of A. Bourdelle, becomes a member of the Salon of Independents. During the same period, Meller, together with artists K. Malevich and A. Exter, exhibited at the Spring and Autumn Salons in Paris. In 1921-1923 worked at the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theater. T. G. Shevchenko. Since 1922, by invitation, he became the main artist at the Ukrainian theater "Berezil". In 1925, his works were exhibited at the International Exhibition of Theatrical Art in New York. In 1928, together with E. Lissitzky, A. Tyshler and V. Ermilov, he took part in the International Printing Exhibition “Press” in Cologne. In 1934, together with I. Yu. Karakis and A. A. Tatsiy, he worked on the design of the Kharkov District House of the Red Army named after. K. E. Voroshilova. In 1935, together with V.D. Ermilov, he took part in the design of the Kharkov Palace of Pioneers. In 1953-1959. was the main artist of the Theater. Franco. He designed the performances “Death of the Squadron” (1933), “Pravda” (1937), “Bogdan Khmelnitsky” (1939), “Front” (1942) by Korneychuk, “Portrait” by Afinogenov (1934), “Earth” by Virta (1938), “The Cherry Orchard” (1946), “Egor Bulychev and others” (1953), “Wings” by Korneychuk (1954), “King Lear” (1959), “Faust and Death” by Levada (1961).
