Sculptor-monumentalist, teacher. People's Artist of the USSR. Winner of five Stalin Prizes. Since 1904 she studied painting in Moscow in the workshops of K.F. Yuona, I.O. Dudina, I.I. Mashkova. In 1912, she went to Paris for two years, where she studied with the monumental sculptor E.A. Bourdelle at the Grand Chaumiere Academy. In 1914, she traveled around Italy, studying Renaissance sculpture and painting. In 1937, her monument “Worker and Collective Farm Woman” was installed at the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris, crowning the Soviet pavilion of the architect B.M. Iofan. For this sculpture, Vera Mukhina was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. In 1939, the sculpture was installed at the northern entrance to the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNH). Also known as a graphic artist.

The work was presented by the author to Ivan Petrovich Pikulev, a writer, during the Second World War to the director of the publishing house "Soviet Writer", who headed the publishing department of the USSR Academy of Arts. Description:Sketch of a sculptural group for the New Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow. The sculpture comes from the collection of the family of V.M. Vakhurkin, a renowned bridge engineer and one of the architects of several Moscow bridges, including the Moskvoretsky Bridge. Similar plaster models are held in the collection of the State Russian Museum.
