Born in Moscow, the draftsman and genre painter Vasily Ivanovich Navozov received a thorough education. Having first graduated from the Stroganov School of Technical Drawing (1874-1880), he became a specialist in household ornamentation - he was often approached with orders for the design of chandeliers, doors, and church candlesticks. The desire to continue his artistic education led the young V. Navozov to the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1880-1882), after which he, on the advice of V.G. Perova enters the full-scale class at the Academy of Arts. Unfortunately, financial difficulties did not allow the academician to devote himself entirely to painting. He collaborates as a draftsman with famous newspapers and magazines published in St. Petersburg. In the same capacity, V. Navozov accompanies Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich on his travels - the artist’s drawings pleased the member of the imperial family. In 1885 V.I. Navozov received the title of class artist of the second degree, and in 1889 - class artist of the first degree.
