Soviet animal artist. Honored Artist of the RSFSR. After graduating from university, he began working as an illustrator. His first independent book, “The Country of Animals” by Vitaly Bianki, was published in 1935, at the same time his drawings appeared in the magazine “Murzilka”. From the mid-1940s he became one of the most sought-after animal artists: from 1944 to 1949, 35 books illustrated by Nikolsky were published. Among the authors: L. Tolstoy, D. Mamin-Sibiryak, E. Seton-Thompson, M. Prishvin, V. Bianchi, P. Manteuffel, G. Skrebitsky, V. Chaplina... He also collaborated with the studio "Filmstrip", for which he made a series of drawings for the filmstrip based on R. Kipling's book "Mowgli".
