Painter. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Born on March 27, 1916 on the Mikolaivka farm in the village of Termi, Lubensky district, Poltava region, in a family of farmers. He graduated from the Shershnevsky labor school (1928-1931). In 1933 at the Kharkov school F.Z.U. He received a profession as a carpenter and worked at the Hammer and Sickle plant. Then he entered evening courses at the Kharkov Art College, and after their successful completion he entered the Kharkov Art Institute at the Faculty of Painting (1939-1941). On November 7, 1945, Yakov Ocheretko’s personal file was accepted into the Kiev State Art Institute, the department of historical battle easel painting, which he brilliantly graduated in 1948. His diploma work was the painting “Meeting of Kovpak and Fedorov in Pripyat.” In the direction of the institute in 1948, Yakov Emelyanovich began working at the Kosovo School of Applied Arts as a teacher of drawing and painting. From 1950 to 1965 he taught painting at the Vizhnytsia School of Applied Arts. Since 1965 he was a member of the Chernivtsi art workshops.
