His grandfather, a serf of Count Sheremetyev, was an icon painter. Father, Sergei Aleksandrovich Orlov (1886-1951), studied with K. Savitsky at the Penza Art School, then at the Kyiv Drawing School. In 1932, V. S. Orlov graduated from the Kharkov Art College. Having moved from Donbass to Taganrog in 1933, Vasily Sergeevich teaches drawing to children of the 13th and 14th city schools, and his father, Sergei Alexandrovich, teaches at the 10th school, in the art studio, and the Taganrog Teachers' Institute. Since 1935 he has taken part in city and regional art exhibitions. During the occupation of Taganrog, Orlov was taken to forced labor in Germany, where he was forced to work as a laborer in a factory until the very end of the war. Returning to Taganrog after the war, V.S. Orlov works in the Taganrog branch of the cooperative association “Vsekokhudozhnik” [3]. In 1946, Orlov was accepted as a member of the Union of Artists. And he was expelled after three years because he was captured by the Germans. After 1953, Orlov was offered to reinstate himself in the Union of Artists, but he refused[4]. In 1997, several works by V. S. Orlov (among them the painting “Around the Native Land”) were presented and sold at Christie’s auction for 10,000 US dollars. Vasily Orlov celebrated his centenary anniversary with a personal exhibition at the Taganrog Art Museum[5]. The artist's works are in the Taganrog Art Gallery, private collections in Russia, the USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, France. Held 9 personal exhibitions.
