Painter, watercolorist, draftsman, lithographer. Portrait painter, executed landscapes, works on historical, everyday, battle subjects, illustrator, caricaturist. He received his artistic education in Warsaw from Zh.P. Norblen, in the court workshops of M. Bacciarelli, as well as with the miniaturist V. Lesser and the engraver B. Folino. Participated in the uprising of T. Kosciuszko (1793 - 1795). In 1799 - 1800 he was in the service of Count Józef Poniatowski, and from 1801 he lived in Lithuania. In 1802 he came to St. Petersburg. Enjoyed the patronage of Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich; in 1807, on his order, he developed sketches of the uniforms of the imperial police battalion and guards regiments and made drawings of military parades. This circumstance determined his position in St. Petersburg: many official orders followed; he became a fashionable artist. In 1809 he was awarded the title of academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Since 1819, he served in the military topographic depot of the General Staff as a draftsman and painter. He was one of the first in Russia to turn to lithography technology. Orlovsky's works are presented in the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg; Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow; Historical Museum in Moscow, and in other regional museums of Russia.
