Russian Soviet artist, painter, landscape painter, member of the Leningrad organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. According to Ivanov S.V., one of the prominent representatives of the Leningrad school of painting. In 1928 he entered the Saratov Art College. In 1931 he came to Leningrad, where he entered the Institute of Proletarian Fine Arts (since 1932, the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture), however, after completing the first year, he left the institute for family reasons. In 1932-1941 he worked as a graphic designer in various institutions in Leningrad. At the same time, he studied painting and drawing in the private studio of the artist Vasily Savinsky, then at the Leningrad Institute for Advanced Studies of Arts Workers with Pavel Naumov, Alexander Karev, Rudolf Frenz. After the start of the Great Patriotic War, the artist worked in the Leningrad branch of TASS on the design of Agitokon. Ovchinnikov graduated from military school and remained in the armed forces until the end of the war. After the war, the artist returned to Leningrad, worked in Lenizo, and carried out advertising and design orders for the largest department stores in the city, DLT and PASSAGE. At the same time, he restored the creative skills lost during the war years, worked a lot on full-scale sketches in the city and its suburbs (Priozersk, Komarovo, Levashovo). Since the early 1950s, Ovchinnikov's works have been invariably exhibited at Leningrad, republican and all-Union exhibitions along with works by leading masters of fine art in Leningrad. The leading genre for him is landscape, the main forms are full-scale sketches and large landscape paintings. Well-known examples of painting from this period include the works “On the Volga” (1951), “Evening. At the Well” (1953), “Dnieper cliffs” (1955), “Spring” (1956), “Dnieper region” (1957). In 1953, after showing at an exhibition a series of such works made in Ukraine, Vladimir Ovchinnikov was accepted as a member of the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists. The works of Vladimir Ivanovich Ovchinnikov are in the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, in museums and private collections in Russia, France, Japan, Italy, Great Britain, the USA and other countries. In 1988, a personal exhibition of the artist’s works was held in the halls of the Leningrad Union of Artists, for which a detailed catalog was published. In 1989-1992, V. I. Ovchinnikov's works were successfully presented at exhibitions and auctions of Russian painting at L' Ecole de Leningrad in France. There are known paintings and graphic portraits of V. Ovchinnikov, executed in different years by Leningrad artists, including O. Lomakin.
