His father Ivan Kirillovich Parkhomenko (1870-1940) was a famous portrait artist, his mother Vechernitskaya Raisa Mikhailovna (1892-?) was a teacher. In his autobiography, written in 1953, A. Parkhomenkov recalled: “Posing for my father, in our family there were people such as I. Stalin, F. Dzerzhinsky, M. Kalinin, S. Budyonny, A. Lunacharsky, A. Novikov-Priboy, F. Gladkov, L. Leonov, A. Chapygin and many others.”[2]. In 1937 A. Parkhomenko went to Leningrad, where he entered the Secondary Art School at the All-Russian Academy of Arts. In 1938 he returned to Moscow to the newly opened Moscow Secondary Art School. In 1945 he entered the painting department of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. E. Repin. He studied with Leonid Ovsyannikov, Mikhail Avilov, Ivan Stepashkin, Yuri Neprintsev. In 1951 he graduated from the institute in the workshop of R. Frenz with the qualification of an artist of painting. In 1951 he was accepted as a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists and awarded the Order of Socialism. labor. Since 1951, he has participated in exhibitions, exhibiting his works along with works by leading masters of fine art in Leningrad. He painted portraits, historical and genre paintings, landscapes, and was awarded the title of academician. His works are in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad. In 1989-1992, A. I. Parkhomenko’s works were successfully presented at exhibitions and auctions of Russian painting in France.
