Artist, writer, contemporary art theorist. The son of artist Viktor Dmitrievich Pivovarov and children's writer Irina Mikhailovna Pivovarova. From 1985 to 1987 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In 1987, together with Yuri Leiderman and Sergei Anufriev, he founded the artistic group “Medical Hermeneutics”, the emergence of which became a new phase in the development of the tradition of Moscow conceptualism. Author of articles on contemporary art issues in domestic and foreign publications. Since 1991, he has participated in numerous domestic and foreign exhibitions, as well as major biennials of contemporary art: International Biennale of Sao Paulo (2004), Venice Biennale (2009), Manifesta (2014). In 2014 he won the Kandinsky Prize in the main category “Project of the Year”. The artist’s works are in the collections of the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the Pompidou Center (Paris), as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
