He began his studies at the National Higher School of Fine Arts, moving to Paris in 1930. Studied with Lucien Simon (member of the Black Gang association). In 1936 he was awarded the First Rome Prize. He was engaged in teaching, reorganizing museum exhibitions and monumental paintings for official orders. Works by J. Pinay are few and far between, not only on the domestic, but also on the foreign art market.
