Paul Jean

Paul Jean (1895, Paris – 1975, Paris).

Painter, engraver, lithographer, and after 1942 - book illustrator. I started writing early. Communicated with A. Derain and M. de Vlaminck. In the period from 1930 to 1945, images of people became the main theme of the artist’s work. His circle of interests is limited to images of jazz musicians and classical music performers, writers, doctors, actors from the French comedy theater and other colorful characters who visited his workshop. Landscape painting fades into the background, but does not die, as he travels a lot throughout Europe and paints numerous paintings with views of cities. Exhibited at the Autumn Salon and the Salon of Independents, Bing Gallery, Drouin-David Gallery, Ferrero Gallery. A retrospective exhibition of the artist was held at the Montmartre Museum (1986). Works are presented at the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, in the museums of Bern and Geneva.
