Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, People's Artist of the USSR, laureate of the USSR State Prize (1951). Honorary member of the Union of Artists of the GDR. In 1946 he graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute, in 1950 he graduated from graduate school at the same institute, studied with M.S. Rodionova, K.N. Istomina, G.T. Goroschenko. In 1957 he was awarded a gold medal from the USSR Ministry of Culture and a bronze medal from the World Exhibition in Brussels (1958). Since 1949 he taught at the Moscow State Art Institute named after. V.I. Surikov. Since 1973 - Chairman of the Board of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Author of a series of easel works dedicated to Soviet miners, workers of Vietnam, India, and Egypt. The artist's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery.
