Reshetnikov Boris Andreevich

Soviet graphic artist, famous poster artist. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and the Union of Journalists of the USSR. Born in 1921. He studied at the Saratov Art School (1946–1948). In 1954 he graduated from the State Academy of Arts of the Latvian SSR named after Teodor Zalkaln in Riga (teacher - P.K. Lyubomudrov). He taught at the Academy of Arts of Latvia (1954–1956). Since 1954 he worked at the Izogiz publishing house. During the period of cooperation with the publishing house, he made, approved by the artistic council and put into circulation more than fifty posters. He performed socio-political posters and created a series of posters on the theme of the pioneers and schools. Reshetnikov’s first posters differed little in formal terms from the works of other authors, but by the end of the 50s, the artist’s detailed, “picturesque” style underwent a change and became laconic and expressive. Boris Reshetnikov abandoned the pictorial design and complex color scheme, and began to effectively emphasize the contours of locally colored figures and objects with delicate outlines. His works acquire integrity and monumentality. Main works: “Under the banner of Leninism, under the leadership of the Communist Party, forward to the triumph of communism!” (1953), “Strengthen the international solidarity of workers!”, “Dare, seek, create!” (1955), “Let's achieve high and sustainable yields!” (1955), “Come to our construction site, friends!” (1956), “Automation in all industries!” (1956), “Peace, Friendship” (1956), “Not a Drop!” (1961), “The people say: No!” (1962), “All year round for cities and industrial centers!” (1963), “The armor is reliable and the engines are strong, tankers are guarding the Soviet country!” (1963), “Glory to the Soviet aviators!” (1973), "Don't Lose!" (1975), “Apply your skill and diligence, prepare in advance for the wintering of livestock!” (1982), “It’s done!” (1983). He made posters in collaboration with Alexander Dobrov - “Let's study the experience of advanced workers and the achievements of science, we will achieve high yields!” (1955), “Electrify the roads! (1957), Great is the Soviet man, daring are his deeds!” (1962). Regular participant in all-Union, republican and foreign exhibitions of Soviet posters. The works of B. A. Reshetnikov are in many Russian museums and private collections.
