Painter and graphic artist. In the early 1930s, he moved to New York and entered the circle of future famous American artists, including Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt, Milton Avery, and others. In 1935, he worked on art projects for the WPA Federal Art Project and worked closely with Diego Rivera. In 1940–1943, he worked with her in Brazil as part of the large government program “Good Neighbor,” aimed at establishing friendly ties between the United States and Latin American countries. Represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, state art museums in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. In 1992, a retrospective exhibition of his work from the 1930s and 1940s was held at the Herter Art Gallery in Boston.
