Afanasy Prokopievich Rozmaritsyn can safely be classified as an original person with elements of the mysteries of creative destiny. According to the artist, until the age of thirty he did not seriously engage in fine art, occasionally picking up a pencil and sketching portraits of his friends. Someone advised him to take up art professionally, and A. Rozmaritsyn went to Dusseldorf, where he entered the Academy of Arts - his drawings impressed Professor von Gebhardt. Of the three years during which Rozmaritsyn was enrolled at the Academy, he, again according to him, did not study for even a month and a half. The rest of the time I either worked independently or was sick. These two circumstances later explained the painter’s great talent (and Rozmaritsyn really had it) and the small number of works that the artist created during his creative life. Rozmaritsyn was lonely. Giving lessons to the children of rich people and receiving large fees for this, he used them for travel in which medicinal purposes were combined with artistic creativity. Rozmaritsyn took part in the fate of some young painters, did a lot to create the Association of South Russian Artists, and with his carefully executed works ("Dirge Service", "Country Watchman", "Nicholas' Soldier", "At the Clavichord", "Musician", "Old World Landowners on a Holiday", "In the Studio", "Poet") earned the honorary title of academician in 1910. In 1916 A.P. Rozmaritsyn quietly disappeared from Odessa - there is no exact information about his last days. The artist's works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery.
