Sapunov Nikolay Nikolaevich

He studied at MUZHVZ and at the same time worked as an apprentice in the set workshops of the Imperial Bolshoi Theater. In 1898, he was one of the first to enter the landscape workshop of the School, which was led by I.I. Levitan. In 1902 he entered the portrait and genre workshop of V.A. Serov and K.A. Korovin, and in 1903, after a trip to Europe, to the Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts in the workshop of A.A. Kiseleva. He worked a lot in the theater, created the scenery for the Private Opera of S.I. Mamontov, “Theater of Tragedies”, theater V.F. Komissarzhevskaya, studio of the Moscow Art Theater. A bright representative of Russian symbolism, famous for his landscapes and still lifes, interpreted in a theatrical and decorative spirit. In 1904 he participated in the “Scarlet Rose” exhibition in Saratov, and in 1907 he was one of the organizers of the exhibition and the Blue Rose Symbolist Society. Collaborated with the Moscow Symbolist magazine “Scales”. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums.
