Serdyukov Vladimir Ivanovich (1924-2003)

Soviet and Russian graphic artist, master of black-and-white and color woodcuts and book graphics, painter, illustrator and woodcut restorer. In 1949 he came to Leningrad and entered the graphic department of the Academy of Arts, which he successfully graduated in 1954. In the 1860–1980s. taught drawing at LISI and Leningrad Higher Art Pedagogical University named after. V. I. Mukhina. Serdyukov had the rare gift of a woodcut restorer. Thanks to him, it was possible to preserve the boards of the outstanding masters of Russian woodcut A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva, V. A. Favorsky, A. I. Kravchenko, N. I. Piskarev, M. I. Pikov, M. V. Kupriyanov. The main work of the master's life was color woodcut (wood engraving). Continuing and developing the traditions of A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva, P. A. Shilingovsky; Serdyukov managed to create a unique lyrical image of St. Petersburg in his works and convey his own, deeply individual understanding and perception of the city. The artist's works are filled with admiration and admiration for the majestic, monumental beauty of St. Petersburg architecture.
