Soviet artist, painter, graphic artist, a prominent representative of the Moscow school of Russian realism and Soviet impressionism. Member of the Union of Artists since 1942. Member of the Moskvorechye Artists' Association. He received his primary art education in 1928-1931. at the courses of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AHRR) under the leadership of Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov. In 1933-1936 he continued his studies at the Moscow Printing Institute at the Faculty of Graphics. In 1936-1942. studied at Moscow State Art Institute named after. V.I. Surikov, where he studied in the workshops of Boris Vladimirovich Ioganson and Alexander Alexandrovich Osmerkin. In 1942, he defended his thesis with honors and earned the high praise of Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky. In the same year he was admitted to the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1944-1945 In the direction of the Studio of Military Artists named after M. B. Grekov, he worked in liberated Sevastopol. The result of the trip was a series of sketches, sketches and finished works dedicated to the feat and tragedy of the hero city. Major personal exhibitions of the artist took place after the death of Nikolai Sergeev, in the early 1990s.
