Dutch marine painter, engraver, lithographer. He studied with the artists Adrian Meulemans and Martius Schumann. In the 19th century, Shotel’s paintings were popular among Russian collectors and were in the collections of the Volkonskys and Golitsins; they were bought by Emperor Nicholas I.
