Outstanding Russian artist of the twentieth century. Her name is on a par with the “Amazons of the avant-garde” Alexandra Ekster, Lyubov Popova, Nadezhda Udaltsova, Varvara Stepanova. She studied in Moscow at the art school of Fyodor Rerberg (1910-1913), in the painting and drawing studio of Ilya Mashkov (1913-1917). She participated in the exhibitions “Jack of Diamonds” (1914), “World of Art” (1917), and the Moscow Association of Artists (1917). Since 1922, she collaborated in the magazines “Krasnaya Niva” and “Club”, and designed books for the publishing house “Academia”. In 1920-1921 she taught drawing in secondary schools in Orel and the State Art Museum of Art in Tver, where a team of like-minded people who were passionate about constructivism formed (graphic artist M. Sokolov, art critic N. Tarabukin). In 1931, she joined the Thirteen group and participated in its 3rd exhibition, which received negative reviews in the press and accusations of formalism. Since the 1930s, she painted landscapes of Moscow and the Moscow region. One of the main themes of creativity in these and subsequent years was the portrait, which is characterized by simplicity of composition, intimate approach, and the master’s ability to capture the harmony of life in the human face. In 1962, her personal exhibition took place in Moscow. The works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and other large collections.
