Sokolov Petr Petrovich

Sokolov Petr Petrovich (1821 – 1899).

The son of the famous Russian watercolorist P.F. Sokolov. Pyotr Petrovich Sokolov inherited his father’s talent and inclinations - he also became a watercolor artist. True, the main theme of his works did not continue the family tradition. P.P. Sokolov did not receive a complete systematic education, although he entered the Academy of Arts and even studied there for three years (1840-1843). Among his teachers was the famous Karl Bryullov. But young Sokolov was not captivated by either his teachers, his mythological subjects, or the canons of academic painting. He leaves the Academy, travels a lot, and even witnesses combat operations in the Russian-Turkish war. Everywhere he makes a lot of sketches of everyday scenes, paints portraits and illustrates books. True, he is increasingly attracted to dynamic subjects - horse racing, hunting birds and animals, relationships between humans and animals. In this hobby P.P. Sokolov achieved remarkable skill, which was appreciated. At the end of his life, the artist is awarded the honorary title of academician, although it is not a matter of academic regalia - the works of P.P. Sokolov's works were desirable acquisitions in art museums and private collections during his lifetime.
