He studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, studied with Professor I.I. Chekmazova. From 1957 to 1962 studied at the Moscow Regional Art Pedagogical School in memory of 1905, studied with V.N. Baksheeva and M.V. Dobroserdova. Since 1962 - participant in art exhibitions, since 1967 - member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Landscape painter. He painted landscapes of the Moscow region, the Baltic states, Crimea, the North, and Central Asia. Personal exhibitions of A.N. Sotskov took place in Stuttgart and Hamburg (Germany), in Belgium, France, and Japan. His works are in private collections in Russia and abroad.
