Born in 1932 in St. Petersburg (Leningrad). In 1953 he graduated from the Moscow Regional Art School in memory of 1905, specializing in theater decorative artist. In 1964 he graduated from the Moscow Printing Institute with a degree in graphic artist. He worked as the main artist in the magazines: “Political Self-Education”, “In the World of Books”, “Soviet Military Review”. At the same time he worked as an illustrator and book designer in the publishing houses “Young Guard”, “Detgiz”, “Fiction”, “Soviet Writer”, “Printing”, “White City”. Illustrated and designed over 200 books. A representative of the realistic movement, he specializes in portrait painting and book illustrations. Many of Boris Strakhov's paintings are inspired by ancient literature and mythology. Among them are watercolor illustrations for Heliodorus’s “Aethiopica” and the exploits of Theseus. Participant of foreign all-Union and Moscow exhibitions. He repeatedly exhibited at the Union of Journalists, at the Moscow House of Nationalities, and at the Central House of Arts. Member of the Moscow Union of Artists, the International Federation of Artists and the Creative Union of Artists of Russia. Member of the Moscow Union of Journalists. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of August 18, 1993, he was awarded the medal of the Defender of Free Russia. In 2004 he was awarded a diploma from the All-Russian competition of architects “For maturity and skill.” Elected chairman of the press artists section of the Moscow Union of Journalists.
