He began to study painting at the age of six from A.A. Kryukov, a student of the Chistyakovites Bachkuri, Abugov, Kardovsky and I.I. Brodsky. At the age of 10, he began parallel studies with the Honored Artist of the RSFSR, professor of painting, academician Yu.I. Skorikova. At the age of 14, on the recommendation of A.A. Kryukova and Yu.I. Skorikova Alexander begins training with A.M. Tavleev, student of T.V. Savinskaya In 1976, Alexander entered the Krasnodar Art School in the theater department. In 1979 he entered the B.V. Secondary Art School. Ioganson at the Institute named after. Repin Academy of Arts of the USSR and successfully graduated from it in 1980. During his studies at the Secondary Art School, his teachers were V.I. Egorkin and O.P. Root..After graduating from the secondary school, having served in the army, Alexander returned to Leningrad and resumed his studies in the workshop of Yu.I. Skorikov. Every year the artist travels to his homeland, bringing packs of sketches from the south. Already in those years, Alexander began to collect Cossack ammunition and props for his future works. Saddles, hats, ancient copper utensils, Cossack belts, Circassian coats, various military uniforms and equipment would later be used repeatedly by him when painting battle paintings and still lifes. In 1985, the Museum of Artillery of the Engineering and Signal Corps held his first personal exhibition. In the same year, his works, presented at the exhibition of Yu.I. Skorikov’s students, received rave reviews and praise from the director of the Hermitage, academician B.B. Piotrovsky and academician D.S. Likhacheva. From 1983 to 1985, Alexander copied a lot in the Hermitage. In those same years, Alexander began to exhibit his works at the Union of Artists. In 1994, Alexander Suchkov was admitted to the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg. During these years, after participating in an exhibition of artists of St. Petersburg in Shanghai, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his works were acquired into the collection of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Alexander Suchkov's work, work in the genres of landscape, portrait, and still life, became most famous thanks to battle still lifes and depictions of horses. Distinctive features of his work are a thorough study of history and work from life. Having created the original genre of battle still life, the analogues of which previously did not exist either in Russian or in foreign fine arts, Alexander Suchkov continues to improve it. Many works by Alexander Suchkov were exhibited at auctions, were acquired and are located in the offices of NASA (USA), the Russian Maritime Register, the Nord-Vertas Maritime Register, NPO Energia, Roscosmos, NPO Yuzhmash, Gazprom, Transneft, the Department of the Russian Navy, in the collection of the mayor of Shanghai, in the Maritime Administration of St. Petersburg, in the Administration of the President of Russia, Administration of the President of Armenia, as well as in other Russian and private collections in 24 countries.
