Marine painter, landscape painter, still life painter. 1926 Order of the Legion of Honor of France. He received his primary education in Karin, then studied at the Murad-Rafaelyan Gymnasium. In 1890, he left for Feodosia, met the artist Hovhannes Aivazovsky and, on his advice, went to Paris. There he attended the Julian Academy, studied with G. Moreau, J.-P. Laurent and B. Constant. A. Shabanyan was one of the founders of the French Association of Marine Painters and Color Engraving, and also a member of the Union of Armenian Artists "Ani". Shabanyan's works are in private collections and in the Boyajian Art Center.
