Student M.V. Dobuzhinsky, K.S. Petrova-Vodkina. In the 1920-1930s he worked in Detgiz under the leadership of V.V. Lebedev, taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the Leningrad Institute of Industrial Construction Engineers. He took part in the exhibitions “World of Art” (1924), the 7th exhibition “Communities of Artists” (1928), “Artists of the RSFSR for 15 years” (1932). Shenderov's animalistic series are based on numerous full-scale sketches at the Leningrad Zoo. In 1961, works from these series participated in exhibitions at the Groswenor Gallery in London (organized by Eric Estorick), as well as in New York. Works by A.S. Shenderov are in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Rostov-on-Don Museum of Fine Arts, the Anna Akhmatova Museum (St. Petersburg), the Russian National Library (St. Petersburg), the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum, and other museum and private collections in Russia and abroad.
