He received his initial art education at the St. Petersburg Island School for the Encouragement of Arts. From the full-scale class of the school he moved to Tenisheva’s studio, where I. E. Repin and Dmitriev-Kavkazsky taught. At the same time he studied etching at the Academy of Arts with prof. V. V. Mate. During the revolution of 1905, he was one of the founders of the first revolutionary satirical magazine “Spectator.” In 1906, he left for Munich, where he worked for Prof. G. Knirr. Upon returning to St. Petersburg, he became a participant in the exhibitions “Spring”, New Island, Peredvizhny, “World of Art”. Member of the Academy of Artists from its founding (1922), participant in all of its exhibitions. Participated in exhibitions for the fifth and tenth anniversary of the Red Army.
