Shevchenko Alexander Vasilievich

Shevchenko Alexander Vasilievich (1883, Kharkov - 1948, Moscow).

In 1899-1909 studied at the Stroganov School, at the Moscow School of Painting and Painting with A.E. Arkhipov and K.A. Korovin, then in Paris at the Academy of R. Julien and in the workshop of E. Carriere. Participated in the exhibitions “World of Art”, “Donkey’s Tail”, “Youth Union”, “Makovets”, “Society of Moscow Artists”, “Target” and “i4”. In 1918–1921 headed the literary and artistic subsection of the Collegium for Arts of the People's Commissariat for Education, in 1918–1929. taught at Vkhutemas, took an active part in the work of the Russian Academy of Art Sciences and the creation of the Museum of Pictorial Culture. In the 1930s made a creative trip to the East: to Adjara, Dagestan, Azerbaijan. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, many regional museums, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
