People's Artist of the RSFSR (1958), Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (since 1932), Winner of two Stalin Prizes (1949, 1951). He received his artistic education at the A. Murashko school in Kyiv, continued in the studio of A. Exter, and then studied at the Academy of Arts in Kyiv. Member of associations: “Ring” (1914), “Cult League” (1917-20) in Kyiv. While studying, he designed the scenery for a futurist concert in Kyiv. In 1920 he painted propaganda trains on the Polish Front. From 1923 to 1933 N. Shifrin was engaged in theatrical activities, designed exhibitions (1922, 1st Agricultural), performances, and was interested in book graphics and easel painting. Took part in exhibitions: Art and Handicraft Exhibition of the USSR (1929 New York), Contemporary Russian Art (1930 Vienna), Soviet Art in Berlin (1930), First Exhibition of Fine Arts of the USSR (1930 Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin), International Exhibition of Book Arts (1931, Paris) (1932, Lyon), Exhibition of Soviet Art (1932 city, Koenigsberg), as well as world exhibitions in Paris (1937) and New York (1939), exhibitions of the OST society (1925-1931).
