Sholokhov Petr Ivanovich

Sholokhov Pyotr Ivanovich (1898 – 1989).

Painter, graphic artist, member of the Union of Artists (1932). He studied at the Borisoglebsk art studio (1915-21), VKHUTEMAS in Moscow (1921-23) with V.A. Favorsky and P.Ya. Pavlinov, then in the workshop of A.E. Arkhipova. Member of the Association of Artists of the Revolution (1929). Participant of Republican and All-Union exhibitions. The author of paintings on a military theme, pictorial subjects associated with the places of L.N. Tolstoy in Yasnaya Polyana and A.P. Chekhov in Melikhovo. In the 1950s, while visiting Borisoglebsk, he created many works depicting city corners; gravitated toward the genres of portrait, landscape, and still life. In 1982 he donated more than 100 of his works to the art museums of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk. In 2000, the Borisoglebsk Art Gallery was named after Sholokhov. Sholokhov's works are also kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Yasnaya Polyana, Melikhovo Museum-Reserve, museums of Serpukhov, Taganrog.
