Soviet photojournalist, one of the pioneers of Soviet photography. Member of the Russian Photographic Society, member of the “October” group, awarded awards at a number of international exhibitions. In 1924, he took posthumous photographs of V.I. Lenin. In 1931 he took part in a polar expedition on the icebreaker "Malygin". He worked in the photo service of the People's Commissariat of Railways, Russfoto, Soyuzfoto, and in the Photo Artist studio at Goskinoizdat. Filmed parades and demonstrations on Red Square. During the war he filmed combat operations. Since 1960 he worked at the Novosti Press Agency. Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR.
